( Until the sun had gone down the drive had been enchanting, and the company for the most part even more so. Dominic had slept on and off through the day, but when awake he'd been quietly cheerful, indulging Billy's sudden turns off the motorway to look at this river or that ruin, and even asleep he'd been an excellent subject of Billy's contemplation. )
